Gallopade

Cunningham described “Gallopade” as “a series of non-sequitur situations” that dealt with “referential movement, in a nonsensical way, made nonsensical by the use of chance operations.” The dance was constructed of multiple sections with the titles “Street Fair,” “50 Looks with Poses,” “The Bed-Ridden Hop and Chess Game,” “L’Amour and the Bounce Dance,” and “Gallop.” Cunningham’s role incorporated some material he had made earlier: “The Bed-Ridden Hop” was a solo made the previous year while recovering from knee surgery; “50 Looks” was an abridged version of a 1979 solo made for video.
