"Jazz Epigram" was a duet choreographed and danced by Merce Cunningham and Dorothy Herrmann while they were classmates at the Cornish School. The duet originated in Bonnie Bird's second-year composition class, and was presented on a student program given by the Cornish Dancers. The music, by Ernst Toch, came from a collection of modern piano pieces that John Cage played for the class.
