Meg Harper, She/They danced with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company from 1968 -1977 and taught at the studio from 1968-2006. She danced with the Lucinda Childs Dance Company from 1979-1990, and began working with theater director Robert Wilson in 1994. They have performed in many of his operas, most recently as Tiresias in Oedipus Rex. Harper has worked extensively with Andrew Ondrejcak, Marianna Kavallieratos, Vicky Shick and Annie-B Parson / Big Dance Theater. Harper has been teaching qigong since 2007; has an alter ego, Demu who performs on the street and in galleries.
She was a 2013 Cunningham Fellow, staging Sounddance (1974) with Thomas Caley, for the Ballet de Lorraine, and a year later, with Andrea Weber for the North Carolina School of the Arts; a 2016 Cunningham Fellow, with Jennifer Goggans, staging Walkaround Time (1968), first as a workshop at City Center followed by a month of work with the Paris Opera Ballet, where it was premiered in April of 2017; and finally a Cunningham Fellow with Jean Freebury, staging Sounddance for a workshop at City Center in preparation for Freebury's staging at the Julliard School in 2018. Harper is grateful for being a part of this work that continues to expand Cunningham's ideas about making work, his aesthetic, and the exuberant experience of dancing his dances.
