Meg Harper

Meg Harper, a graduate of the University of Illinois, danced with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company from 1968-1977. Harper went on to work with Lucinda Childs (1979-1990), performing in the first revival of Einstein on the Beach (1984), directed by Robert Wilson. She has been working as an actor/dancer with Mr. Wilson since 1998, and is currently performing in his new opera, Oedipus Rex, which will run through 2020 in Italy. Ms. Harper was a 2013 Cunningham Fellow, staging Sounddance (1974) with Thomas Caley, for the Ballet de Lorraine, and a year later, with Andrea Weber for the North Carolina School of the Arts. She was a 2016 Cunningham Fellow, with Jennifer Goggans, staging Walkaround Time (1968), first as a workshop at City Center followed by a month of work with the Paris Opera Ballet, where it was premiered in April of 2017. She was a 2017 Cunningham Fellow, with Jean Freebury, staging Sounddance for a workshop at City Center in preparation for Freebury’s staging at the Juilliard School in 2018. Ms. Harper taught at the Cunningham Studio from 1968 until 2006. Harper will perform in Andrew Ondrejcak’s revival of Elijah Green in New Orleans, in February 2019. She also works with choreographers Marianna Kavallieratos and Vicky Shick. Harper teaches Qigong in senior centers and churches throughout New York City.
