This documentary film features the choreographic process of Merce Cunningham's experiments with the computer program "Life Forms." Cunningham, a inveterate explorer of new technology, became interested in "how the computer opens the eye to detail --the way a photograph does." Shot over the course of one year, it follows the dancers as they transform Cunningham's computerized images to staged reality. Filmed at the Merce Cunningham Studio, Westbeth, New York, NY. Excerpts shown WNET/13 "City Arts," 11-14 January 1996. First public screening, "The Video Place," London, 23 October 1996. Dance on Camera Festival, Walter Reade Theater, Lincoln Center, New York, NY, 8 December 1996. Grand Prize winner.
