4'33"

As part of a Central Park SummerStage program entitled “4’33” and Other Sounds Not Intended/A Tribute to John Cage,” Cunningham made an arrangement for his company of John Cage’s 4’33”. Each of the dancers chose three different positions to hold for the duration of the three movements of Cage’s composition: 0:33, 2:40, and 1:20. A lighting cue was used to indicate the beginning and end of each movement. David Tudor performed the music. This arrangement of 4’33” was subsequently done in many Events and for various special occasions.
