Credo in Us

"Credo in Us" was one of three duets choreographed by Merce Cunningham and Jean Erdman for a joint concert of work by Cunningham, Erdman and Nina Fonaroff. The most ambitious duet on the program, it was a satire on contemporary American mores with music by John Cage and text by Merce Cunningham. According to Erdman, “We said the script was a translation from the French Surrealist magazine Minotaur. However, it was truly written by Merce.” The subtitle used for the first performance, "A dramatic playlet for Two Characters," was subsequently changed to "A Suburban Idyll."
