“Neighbors” was a work for three women and three men, whom Cunningham described as “three neighborhood couples, probably from the suburbs.” When asked if that were all he had to say on the subject, he replied, “Isn’t that enough?” The dance was lively and virtuosic, with numerous jumping phrases and fast footwork. The backdrop and costumes, designed by Mark Lancaster, were based on a series of his recent paintings involving geometric patterns. The music was a new electronic work by Takehisa Kosugi entitled “Streams.”
